The Peoples Health Champions Program honored Betty Wells on Nov. 18, 2018, during the New Orleans Saints game against the Philadelphia Eagles, for starting a new career at age 75. After working 30 years in housekeeping at Ochsner Medical Center, instead of retiring, Wells stayed on in a position created specifically for her—Ochsner’s official greeter.

Her new position showcases her ability to connect with people, many of whom are facing tough situations. Wells has learned over the course of eight decades that the things we say and do have a great impact on others, so she spends her days spreading hope and optimism to everyone who enters the hospital.
