UnitedHealth Passport

Your Coverage Travels With You

If you’re out of your plan’s service area, you can use UnitedHealth Passport® to get care at network costs.

How to Use the UnitedHealth Passport Program

Before You Travel

You must notify us before you travel outside of the service area when you want health care coverage under the Passport program. Call the customer service number on your Peoples Health member ID card to activate the Passport benefit. A representative will help you find participating Passport providers in the area where you are traveling. You must only use participating providers.

While You're Away

After you have called us to activate the benefit and find participating providers in your area, you can use your plan as usual to see those participating providers. You don’t need referrals with Passport. You’ll pay your usual copay or coinsurance as long as you are seeing a participating provider.

When You Return Home

Let us know when you return home so we can deactivate the benefit. UnitedHealth Passport can only be used for 9 months in a row.

How does the UnitedHealth Passport benefit work with my out-of-network benefit?

The Passport program doesn’t change your out-of-network benefit. You can still get the services your plan allows from out-of-network providers who accept Medicare. In some cases, this may be at a higher cost. Your Passport benefit gives you the option to get care from a participating Passport provider at in-network costs.

Is the UnitedHealth Passport benefit only for emergency services?

No, the benefit covers routine medical care from participating Passport providers. You’re always covered for emergency and urgent care whenever and wherever you need it. See your plan’s Evidence of Coverage for more information.

How do I find UnitedHealth Passport providers?

Before you travel, call the customer service number on the back of your member ID card to activate the Passport benefit. A representative will help you find participating Passport providers in the area where you are traveling. You must only use participating providers.
