Peoples Health Respite Care Benefit
Respite care provides caregivers with a “respite”—or temporary break—from caregiving duties. Most Peoples Health plans offer a respite care benefit for eligible members.
What does the benefit cover?
Members pay $0 for services from a network respite care provider. Peoples Health covers up to 12 respite care sessions per year, and each session can last up to eight hours. Services are provided in the member’s home or another household in Louisiana.

Who is eligible?
Respite care is available to members who have been diagnosed with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Peoples Health must confirm the diagnosis with a health care provider before sessions can begin.
What services are provided during a respite care session?
Services vary based on need and may include:
- Light housekeeping
- Incontinence care
- Medication reminders
- Companionship and safety
- Assistance with meal preparation
- Help with grooming, bathing and toileting needs
When are respite care services available?
Respite care is available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sessions may begin no earlier than 8 a.m. and end no later than 5 p.m. Weekend and holiday service is not available. Availability for specific dates and times cannot be guaranteed.
