Over-the-Counter Health & Wellness Benefit | 2021

Over-the-Counter Items for You

Most Peoples Health Medicare Advantage plans cover over-the-counter (OTC) medications and health & wellness items, and the benefit varies by plan. If your plan has the benefit, you get a specified dollar amount to spend for a $0 copay. Local sales tax is added to your order total and deducted from your credit balance. The sales tax is based on your address and varies by parish. 

Categories of covered items include generic and brand name products for allergy, sinus, cold and flu; pain relief; home health care and daily living; supports, braces and wraps; dental and oral health; eye and ear care; first aid; smoking cessation; diabetes care; foot care; digestive health; incontinence; skin care; sleep aids; and vitamins. Products listed in the catalog may change at any time.

Terms to Know

OTC – over-the counter

Health & Wellness Products – another way to refer to OTC items

Solutran – the company that helps us with your benefit and sends your OTC catalog

Walmart – retailer where your items are shipped from

Healthy Benefits Plus – website and call center where you order items and get information about your benefit

Quarter – four parts of a year:

  • Jan. 1 – March 31
  • April 1 – June 30
  • July 1 – Sept. 30
  • Oct. 1 – Dec. 31

2021 Health & Wellness Products Catalog Benefit

The catalog benefit varies by plan. It offers a set credit amount each quarter to order OTC items and have them delivered to you. Credits expire at the end of the quarter. You can place as many orders as you like per quarter, up to the plan’s quarterly credit amount.

How To Order OTC Items

Peoples Health members in eligible plans have three options for ordering OTC items.

The quickest and easiest way to order is online. You can check your credit balance, look up approved items, and more.

You can also order by phone or with a mail-in form. To order by phone, call in the early morning, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., when hold times are shortest.

2021 Health & Wellness Products Retail Card Benefit
and Healthy Food Benefit

 

The following plan offers these benefits:

Peoples Health Secure Complete (HMO D-SNP)

$300 per quarter (Over-the-Counter Items)

$55 per month (Healthy Food Benefit)

Members with the retail card benefit receive $300 in credits each quarter to spend on approved OTC items. Credits roll over from quarter to quarter and expire at the end of the year on Dec. 31.

Members with this OTC benefit also have a Healthy Food Benefit and receive $55 in credits on the first day of each month to spend on approved healthy food items. The credits are added to the OTC benefit retail card. Healthy food credits expire the last day of the month.

These are covered benefits only for members of Peoples Health Secure Complete. They are not covered benefits for members of any other Peoples Health plan.

 

How To Purchase OTC Items With a Retail Card


Peoples Health Secure Complete members have four options for purchasing OTC items.

You can shop for approved OTC items, as well as approved healthy food items, in-store at participating retailers, including Walmart. You can also buy OTC items online, by phone or through a mail-in form.

To order by phone, call in the early morning, between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., when hold times are shortest.

What is considered a quarter?

Each quarter of the year is divided into the following three-month increments: Jan. 1 – March 31, April 1 – June 30, July 1 – Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 – Dec. 31.

How do I purchase OTC items?

Most plan members can order items online, by phone or by mailing in an order form. If you’re a Peoples Health Secure Complete member, your benefit also allows you to shop at participating stores with a retail benefit card.

The Healthy Benefits Plus website is the quickest and easiest way to order items for delivery to your home. You’ll need your benefit card number and security code to create an account. Once you have an account, you won’t need to input this information each time you order online.

Other benefits to using your online account are that you can:

  • See your credit balance for the quarter with the My Benefit Tracker feature, and see in real time the cost for items in your cart, along with the estimated tax amount
  • Look up approved OTC items
  • Download a digital catalog
  • Save items in your cart for later
  • Change or update your delivery address (changing your delivery address does not change the permanent address you have on file with us)

Peoples Health Secure Complete members can also look up participating retailers for in-store shopping.

You get fast and free shipping when you order online, by phone or by mail.

Local sales tax is added to purchases and deducted from your credit balance. Sales tax is based on your address and varies by parish.

Do I pay for shipping?

No, all shipping charges are covered by your plan when you order online, by phone or by mail.

Do I have to pay sales tax?

Yes, all orders are subject to local state sales taxes.

Why can’t I order online or by phone and pick up my order from the Walmart store near my house?

Not all Walmart stores are set up for in-store pick-up, and the location closest to you may not have this option. Shipping is fast and free, so we can have your order delivered right to your door. This may be more convenient to you than traveling a far distance to a store to pick up your items.

If you’re a Peoples Health Secure Complete member, the only way to use your healthy food credits is to shop in-store for your healthy food items.

I tried to order an item in the catalog, but it’s no longer available. Why?

Approved items can change at any time. There are more than 400 items in your catalog and 5,000 items online through the Healthy Benefits Plus website. If a certain item is no longer available, you may be able to find a similar item to purchase. If you call the Healthy Benefits Plus phone number, a representative will help you find another item close to the one you want. Note that there may be differences with the alternative item, including the cost of it. Alternative items may automatically be sent to you if an item’s availability changes after you’ve placed an order.

What do I do if an item I need is not available or I can’t find it online?

If you’re ordering online, you will be able to see when an item is no longer available. You may be able to find a similar item that you can order. When you order by phone and an item isn’t available, the representative will try to find an alternative item that’s close to the one you want. When this happens and you’ve ordered multiple items, they may arrive separately in different shipments because they may be from different locations. You get fast and free shipping. Alternative items may automatically be sent to you if an item’s availability changes after you’ve placed an order.

If you’re a Peoples Health Secure Complete member and you’re shopping in-store, you will need to first find approved alternative items in your catalog or at Healthy Benefits Plus, then purchase the approved alternative.

I received my online order in multiple shipments. Why?

The items you ordered may not all be available from the same fulfillment center. If this happens, to make sure you get your items as quickly as possible, the items may be shipped separately from each fulfillment center.

When I try to order over the phone, the representative is telling me there is a shipping fee. I thought I had free shipping?

Yes, your benefit offers fast and free shipping when you order online, by phone or by mail. Walmart helps us fulfill orders for OTC items, and shipping fees are waived for you.

When I ordered my item over the phone, the representative told me to choose a different item because the one I wanted was not available. What should I do?

Occasionally, an item may be unavailable or discontinued and can’t be shipped to you. You may choose a different item that is similar to the one you want. This is why the representative offered you a different item that is in stock and that can be shipped to you. Alternative items may automatically be sent to you if an item’s availability changes after you’ve placed an order.

Can I have my items shipped to another address besides my home? 

Yes. When you order online, you have the option to add a delivery address for a specific order that may be different from your home address. The address you put in will only be used one time to ship the items for that one order. It does not change the permanent address you have on file with us.

I misplaced my envelopes. Where do I send a paper form?
