With the Peoples Health 401(k) plan through American Funds, Peoples Health works with employees to plan for a financially stable retirement. It’s never too early to start planning and there are certain incentives that come with saving, as well. When investing funds in a 401(k), an employee's contribution is deducted from their paycheck before taxes are withheld, meaning that they save money on taxes because their taxable income is lower.
Once they have been an employee with Peoples Health for one year, the company will match their contribution dollar for dollar up to 5 percent of their bi-weekly salary.
Employees can enroll in the 401(k) plan beginning on the first of the month following their first 30 days of employment.
A 529 college savings plan is designed to encourage saving for future college costs. Employees pay no federal income taxes on their earnings while the account is invested and no federal income taxes when they withdraw money to pay for qualified higher education expenses such as tuition, room and board, mandatory fees, books and computers. Investing in a 529 plan is a great way to begin saving for a child's future. Employees can also invest money into this plan to pay future education expenses for themselves, grandchildren or other family members. This savings plan is offered through Louisiana START Saving program. There is a 30-day waiting period to begin contributing to the 529 college savings plan.
