Joe Cook is President of Louisiana Media Company, LLC and General Manager of WVUE FOX 8. He returned to New Orleans in 2008 when Tom Benson bought the station.
Joe first came to New Orleans as Vice President and General Manager of WVUE-TV, Fox 8 in October 2001. He was promoted to Regional Vice President for Emmis Communications, with management responsibilities expanded to include television stations in Mobile-Pensacola until his retirement in March 2005.
Prior to moving to New Orleans, Joe was General Manager of WALA-TV in Mobile from 1986. While in Mobile, Joe served on numerous boards, including Chairman of the Board of the local Sickle Cell Disease Association and a board member on the National board. Joe was also a longtime board member of The America?s Junior Miss program, and served as President of the national board of directors in 1995.
Joe was a longtime committee member of the Senior Bowl and board member of the Ken Stabler Celebrity Golf Classic and the successor organization, The Celebrity Golf Classic, with both organizations providing funding for the Ronald McDonald Houses in the Mobile and Pensacola areas.
A graduate of Seaford High School in Seaford, Delaware, Joe graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Radio, Television and Film and Journalism in 1971, and worked as the Assistant Sports Information Director during the Heisman Trophy campaign for Pat Sullivan, the 1971 winner of that award.
After leaving Auburn, Joe married Becky (Parker) of Mobile, and moved to Nashville where he was Circulation Manager and Photographer for Athlon Publications and Southeastern Football Magazine.
Joe and Becky then moved to Americus, Georgia where they both worked for Georgia Southwestern College. Joe was the Director of Public Relations and Becky worked for the Science and Math departments.
Joe?s television career began in 1975 when he was an Account Executive for WEAR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Pensacola. Joe moved to WALA-TV in the fall of 1981 as Local Sales Manager. He was promoted to General Sales Manager in 1984, Station Manager in 1985 and President and General Manager in 1986.
Joe and Becky have two children. Carrie Blume is a lawyer in Houston and Wes Cook owns Aqua Barn Web Solutions, Inc., a Web site design company in Mobile.
They have one granddaughter,, Claudia Blume in Houston.
