Q: Am I giving up my Medicare coverage when I join HealthCare Select?
A: Absolutely not. HealthCare Select covers all of the benefits of traditional Medicare plus much more including:
- No charge for hospital or doctor visits, consultations or surgery
- No charge for medical equipment, supplies, or home health care
- Discounts on vision, dental, hearing exams, and selected hearing aids
Q: What is a PPO?
A: A PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) is a plan that gives you the flexibility to access care from either Preferred (Network) or Non-Preferred (Out-of-Network) providers. As a PPO, HealthCare Select offers you two levels of healthcare coverage: Preferred Provider Level
The Preferred Provider level allows you to access care from providers who are part of the HealthCare Select provider network. You'll receive 100% coverage for Medicare-covered services received though HealthCare Select preferred providers.
Non-Preferred Provider Level The Non-Preferred Provider level allows you to access care from providers who are not part of the HealthCare Select provider network. To access care at this level, you may see any doctor or specialist you choose and receive 80% coverage for Medicare-covered services received though HealthCare Select non-preferred providers.
Q: Are there any special requirements to enroll in HealthCare Select?
A: All we require is that you live in one of our service areas: Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. John or St. Tammany parish. In addition, you must be enrolled in Medicare Part B and be entitled to Medicare Part A and not have End-Stage Renal Disease.
Q: Do I need to take a physical? What about pre-existing conditions?
A: No physical is required. You only have to answer a few brief questions that Medicare requires on your enrollment form to verify that you do not have End-Stage Renal Disease.
Q: What does HealthCare Select do to monitor my health and optimize my well-being?
A: HealthCare Select takes a proactive approach to maintaining and even improving your overall well-being. We offer many wellness features and programs to members including:
- New Member Wellness Evaluation
- Complimentary health club membership and fitness classes
- 24-hour/7 days a week Nurse Line

All this plus your own Personal Service Representative to add to your piece of mind. You'll receive individualized, personalized support and answers to your questions. Your Personal Service Representative will assist you with questions regarding Medicare benefits, billing, payment, or any other administrative concerns you might have.
Q: Is it true that there is virtually no claim paperwork?
A: Yes! Claims are forwarded to HealthCare Select directly and we take care of the paperwork.
Q: How would I benefit from enrolling in HealthCare Select?
A: HealthCare Select is the health plan that lets you enjoy all the benefits of Medicare combined with a supplement. HealthCare Select was designed with you and your lifestyle in mind. For example: there are NO pre-approvals or referrals for hospital visits, doctor visits, or any other medical service! You decide which doctor you want to see - and when! Plus, at $80 per month, HealthCare Select's premium costs half of what a Medicare Supplement does.
Q: Is HealthCare Select the Medicare solution for everyone?
A: If you prefer to receive the majority of your care from Non-Participating Providers, you'll need to determine whether HealthCare Select is right for you. For help making this determination, call us and a Benefits Advisor will help you compare your current health insurance coverage to HealthCare Select.
Q: What if I enroll in HealthCare Select and find that the plan is not right for me?
A: If you feel that HealthCare Select is not best suited for your needs and you would like to discontinue your membership, you have the option to enroll in another plan or return to traditional Medicare at any time. You may have additional rights depending on your previous coverage. Call a Benefits Advisor for more information.
Q: What is the monthly premium payment?
A: As a member of HealthCare Select, you must pay a $80 per month premium.
Q: What happens if I don't pay my premium, or don't pay it on time?
A: If we don't receive your payment by the due date, your Personal Service Representative will contact you with a reminder. If you have any questions regarding your account, please contact your Personal Service Representative.
