1. Adjust the thermostat
- Set your thermostat to 78 degrees. If you’re going to be away from home for a few days, set the thermostat to 80 degrees or higher.

2. Conserve hot water
- Wash clothes in cold water when possible.
- Take a quick shower instead of a bath.

3. Clean or replace appliance filters and coils
- Clean air conditioner filters and refrigerator condenser coils every year.
- Circulate cool air using ceiling or box fans.

4. Use ENERGY STAR light bulbs
- Energy-efficient light bulbs use 70 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer than regular (incandescent) bulbs

5. Seal air leaks
- Place weather-strips around doors, windows and wall seams.
- Caulk around the seams of electrical, plumbing or heating systems.
