1. If I seek medical care from a provider outside my normal Peoples Health plan area while evacuated, will it be covered?
If you require medical care, please seek it immediately from the nearest emergency department, urgent care center or other medical provider.
All Peoples Health plans have out-of-network coverage so that your medical care in times of an evacuation will be covered. Out-of-network benefits are detailed in each plan's Evidence of Coverage.

3. If I am admitted to the hospital as a result of my visit to an emergency room outside my normal Peoples Health plan service area while evacuated, will it be covered?

4. Do I need to call Member Services to get approval before seeking emergency care or hospitalization while evacuated?
No. If you need care, please seek it from the nearest available provider. Please ask your provider to contact us to ensure we can work with them to best coordinate your care.
Please remember to always show your Peoples Health member ID card whenever you seek medical care or fill prescriptions.
5. How can I get medication refilled?
Peoples Health encourages you to have at least a two-week supply during emergencies and, therefore, will pay for early 30-day refills of maintenance prescription medications during a tropical storm warning, a hurricane warning, or in the event you are evacuated.
Early refills do not apply to controlled substances such as pain pills, sleeping pills , etc. In addition, early refills do not apply to medications not normally considered maintenance medications, such as antibiotics, cough syrups, etc.
You will still have to pay your copays for generics (unlimited) and brands (if you still have a balance remaining on your annual maximum brand benefit).
Also, Peoples Health will pay for prescriptions written by out-of-network physicians during your evacuation.
Always show your Peoples Health member ID card to the pharmacist when you fill your prescription, even if you are outside of the Peoples Health service area due to an evacuation or on vacation.
6. How do I get to my scheduled dialysis?
Go to the nearest emergency room, or contact Davita at 1-800-472-8664 for the nearest center.
7. How do I get to my scheduled IV therapy?
Go to the nearest emergency room.
8. What do I do if I need a routine check-up?
Routine appointments may be rescheduled upon your return home. Again, if you have a medical emergency, please go to the nearest emergency room.
9. How do I get my DME supplies?
Please contact your DME provider directly. If you are unable to reach your DME provider, you may contact the DME vendor that supplied you with your equipment. Following is a list of the most frequently accessed DME providers in the Peoples Health plan service area:
Community Oxygen: 504-894-9729
They handle oxygen, CPAP machines, respiratory assist devices and nebulizer medications.
Duramed: 504-467-4057
They handle wheelchairs, hospital beds , walkers, etc.
EdgePark Surgical Supply: 1-800-307-5930
They handle diabetic and ostomy supplies
If you are outside of the Peoples Health service area due to the evacuation and require urgent care and/or DME, please see any available physician.
Offices Closed Through Friday, September 5

The Peoples Health offices will now be closed through Friday, September 5th. We anticipate reopening on Monday, September 8th.
We continue to encourage you to refill any maintenance medications, if you have not already done so. Thirty day supply refills of medications will be honored regardless of when you last filled them and there are over 50,000 pharmacies nationwide where your prescriptions can be filled.
Please carry your health plan member ID card with you at all times. If you need medical care, prescription medications or medical supplies, please obtain these services from any available provider.

Maintenance Medications

We encourage you to refill any maintenance medications with refills now. Thirty-day supply refills of maintenance medications will be honored regardless of when you last filled them. Also, we will cover for prescriptions written by out-of-network physicians, if you should have to evacuate.
Always show your Peoples Health Member ID card to the pharmacist when you fill your prescription; even if you are outside the Peoples Health service area due to an evacuation or even on vacation.
Your Peoples Health member ID card is honored at 50,000 drugstores across the country, including most chain drugstores and many independent pharmacies. Just be sure to show your Peoples Health plan ID card to the pharmacist when you refill your prescription. |
